The Work Has Begun!

Dear People of Christ Church,

The Work Has Begun!!

After years of conversations, planning, and raising the funds to do the work, the project to upgrade 470 Maple Street has begun in earnest. Working with our Construction Committee (Cindy Lyman and Kevin Walsh, co-chairs), W.B. Olson has started the work of upgrading and adding ADA bathrooms, relighting Powell Hall, adding a lift for access to the chapel and hall, and replacing the chapel stairs. All will be complete this fall with a minimum disruption to our common life. This is SO exciting and represents the hard work and generosity of so many Christ Church members. All this after the completion of our new playground next to Church House!

This has all been made possible by hundreds of generous gifts to the Capital Campaign, which are payable over five years. You all have been so generous! Pledges are being fulfilled ahead of schedule, allowing us to be able to pay for the project without having to take out a loan. The savings are significant. The Capital Campaign Leadership Team joins me in thanking you for your remarkable spirit of giving. We look forward to your continued faithfulness in fulfilling your pledges and are counting on you so that our momentum continues apace.

In addition, the Vestry has approved a bid from Premier Mechanical to replace our ninety-one year old boiler at 470 Maple. That project is separate from our Capital Campaign work. For the first time in that building’s life, we will have zones to control what will be heated and when, which will translate into a major cost savings with rising natural gas prices. That work will take place concurrently with our Capital Campaign 470 Maple Street projects in order to have heat by the Fall.

I am still taking in last weekend, a time that will surely be the last thing I think of before I go to greater glory. We did so much together and the celebration of our ten-plus years beautifully captured the spirit of our joint ministry.

Thank you all so much for such a memorable send-off and for the love you made so plain in so many remarkable ways. My last Sunday as Rector will be June 26 in Maple Street Park.  hope we can pray together one last time as we await all the glorious things that God has in store for us.

Faithfully,

Christopher+
