diocese of southeast mexico
The Diocese of Southeast Mexico extends from Mexico City to the Yucatan Peninsula, with 15 congregations and 10,000 members.
The Diocese of Chicago established a companion relationship with the Diocese of SE Mexico in 2001, and in 2005 Christ Church sent its first group of parishioners there for a visit. Following that visit, we developed a companion relationship with the parish of Jesus de Nazaret in the rural village of La Esperanza in the state of Oaxaca.
Since then, several groups of parishioners have traveled to La Esperanza under the direction of lay leader Gary Martin to offer a hand of friendship, to worship together, and to help with service projects at the church. We are happy to have welcomed the bishop, The Rt. Rev. Benito Juarez-Martinez, to Christ Church on many occasions throughout the years of our friendship.
